World Backup Day
What is backup?
A backup is essentially a safety copy of your valuable digital data, such as photos, videos, documents, and emails. Instead of storing this data solely on your primary device (like your computer or phone), a duplicate set is created and stored in an external location. This process is crucial to prevent data loss and ensure the continuity of both personal and business activities.
Why backup your data?
Can you recover that project, into which you’ve invested so much work? If those files are critical, please make a backup. Prevention is better than cure. By saving copies in multiple locations, you avoid losing everything if your device crashes, gets lost, or is attacked by malware. To ensure your data is safe — no matter what happens — we recommend following the 3-2-1 backup strategy. It stipulates that you store your data in three places, on two types of storage, with one copy stored off-site, preferably in cloud backup.
Modern technology makes creating backups easier than ever, yet many still neglect this. Losing a mobile device or falling victim to malware can have serious consequences for your data. While some level of data protection is common, it’s crucial to take concrete measures. On March 31, World Backup Day, we emphasize the importance of a solid backup strategy.
What is a 3-2-1 backup strategy?
A 3-2-1 backup strategy is a method for ensuring that your data is adequately duplicated and reliably recoverable. In this strategy, three copies of your data are created on at least two different storage media and at least one copy is stored remotely.
Three copies of data: Keep the original and two backups to prevent data loss from corruption or failure.
Two different storage types: Use two distinct storage media, like an internal drive and cloud storage, to reduce risk.
One copy off-site: Store one backup in a separate location to safeguard against disasters and cyber threats.
This strategy is considered the best practice by most information security experts and government authorities. It protects against both accidents and malicious threats, such as ransomware, and ensures reliable data backup and restoration.
